Expired domain website restoration, in short

Yes, a website can usually be restored after its domain expired, as long as the Wayback Machine or your own files captured it. Wayback Restore checks the domain’s archive history, rebuilds the recoverable pages, text, images and URLs on new hosting in WordPress, Elementor, WooCommerce or HTML, and keeps old URLs live so existing backlinks work again. Prices start at $29.

Can I get my website back after my domain expired?

If the domain is back under your control and the Wayback Machine captured the site, yes. Renew or re-register the domain first, then we rebuild the site from the archive on new hosting.

Does a restored website keep its SEO?

Restoring the original pages on the same URLs gives existing backlinks a working destination again. Rankings depend on many factors and are not guaranteed, but broken URLs lose value quickly.

I bought an expired domain. Can you restore its old website?

Only content you have the right to use. Re-publishing someone else’s copyrighted text or images without permission is not something we do, so we review ownership before starting.

Three common expired-domain situations

Every expired-domain recovery starts the same way: confirm you control the domain, then check what the archive captured. The details depend on how the site was lost.

Hosting and domain both expired

A renewal reminder was missed, the host deleted the account and the site went offline. Once the domain is renewed, we rebuild the site from archive snapshots and any files you still have.

You re-registered your old domain

The domain lapsed and you got it back. We find the best snapshot period and restore the pages, menus, images and URLs that were captured before it expired.

Domain works, content is gone

The domain points to new hosting with an empty or default site. We rebuild the old content so returning visitors, bookmarks and backlinks land on real pages again.

How expired domain restoration works

01 · Archive history check

We look up your domain’s captures on the Wayback Machine, find the best snapshot period and count the recoverable pages and assets.

02 · Ownership check

We confirm you control the domain and can reuse the content before any work starts.

03 · Scope and quote

You get the platform options, what can and cannot be recovered, the price and the delivery estimate, before you pay.

04 · Rebuild with URL mapping

Pages are rebuilt on your chosen platform. Old URLs are kept or 301-redirected, and archive links and toolbars are removed.

05 · QA and launch

We test links, layouts, mobile views and the forms in scope, then hand over the files or deploy to your hosting.

Keep your old URLs and backlinks working

When a domain expires, every external link to it starts pointing at an error page. Restoring the same URLs gives those links a destination again. We map the archived URLs, rebuild the important pages and 301-redirect pages that cannot be restored exactly.

Read our guide on which lost backlink pages to restore first.

A note on ownership

We restore websites for domain owners and their authorised representatives. Content in the Wayback Machine still belongs to its original authors, so if you bought an expired domain we only rebuild content you have the right to use. See how we check archived content ownership.

Expired domain restoration FAQ

How long does expired domain website restoration take?

It depends on the page count, archive coverage and platform. You get a delivery estimate after the free archive review, before you pay.

What if the Wayback Machine only has some pages?

We restore what was captured, use any files or screenshots you have, and rebuild or redesign the missing pages from the remaining content. See our guide to incomplete archive recovery.

Can you restore the website on a different domain?

Yes. We rebuild it on the domain you control. If you also control the old domain, 301 redirects can send its visitors and links to the new one.

Do you need my hosting login?

No. We can build on our staging server and deliver a migration package, or work directly on your hosting if you provide access.

What do I need to send to start?

Your domain, any Wayback Machine link or snapshot date you prefer, your platform choice, and any old files, exports or screenshots you still have.
